CRC

The Center for Research Computing and Data (https://crc.pitt.edu) provides a high performance computing cluster with secure shell access on htc.crc.pitt.edu. Authenticate with UPitt credentials.

Pitt faculty can request accounts with 5Tb of storage, 50,000 SLURM service units, and unlimited sponsored accounts.

CRC is not HIPAA compliant and prohibits storing Protected Health Information (PHI). Don't include date of birth on patient info during scan acquisition for data that may be stored on the CRC.

CRC access is restricted to PittNet

For connecting to PittNet, see OAC's crc instructions (UPMC) or Pitt's GlobalConnect instructions (everywhere else)

Connecting from UPMC

Navigating within UPMC's firewall requires two steps, both documented by the Office of Academic Computing (OAC). First, connect to MS's cloud (OAC: AVD) and within that connection, jump to the CRC (OAC on CRC).

As of 2025-09-08:

  1. open https://windows.cloud.microsoft/ or Windows App using UPitt credentials
  2. Chose/connect to Psychiatry AVD (Azure Virtual Desktop)
  3. Use FastX to connect to psych.crc.pitt.edu port 443 as SSH and ignore SSL errors

freerdp

On linux there is no Windows App, but the development version of freerdp can connect to Azure Virtual Desktops using a rdpw file from arm wvd (gear icon→Download the rdp file). See FAQ instructions

# change 'foran' to your pitt user name
