EyeLink Task Computer Setup

This page outlines steps needed to setup SR Research EyeLink 1000 Plus for in-scanner eye tracking. Also see the SR Research participant setup video 1).

A nascent (2025-04-03) checklist document is on here

Once the camera and task PC are setup, you likely want to run SR Research EyeLink Calibration.

Other eye tracking topics include EyeLink Task Integration, EyeLink Analysis, and SR Research EyeLink Install.

Setup Steps

We must both attach and remove the Ethernet connection each scan that will use eye tracking 2). The bottom port is already configured for the EyeLink system 3). To aid in setup, it's best to have the fully video displayed showing on the task computer and projected in the scan room.

Connections

Prisma 1 and Prisma 2 have slightly different EyeLink configurations.

Prisma 1

  1. Display your laptop or the MRRC Win11 computer to the projector.
  2. Turn on the EyeLink “Host PC” tower under the desk
  3. Attach the Ethernet cable to the bottom yellow labeled “eyelink” port on the back of the Eyelink Host PC.
  4. Use EPrime PC/Laptop to connect to EyeLink with control64.exe

    • Blue eye icon on desktop OR C:\Program Files (x86)\SR Research\EyeLink\SampleExample\ (from SDK)
    • If EPrime PC says “Connection failed” or EyeLink PC says “CABLE FAULT”, check Ethernet cable from earlier is fully plugged in and in the bottom port.

    • If you see a gray screen on the both the Task PC and EyeLink PC, the connection worked and you are ready to calibrate!

  5. Pull out the EyeLink keyboard and mouse
  6. Display the full eye image on the projector (cloned EPrime PC display) to help the technologist setup.
    • Push Enter to stream the EyeLink camera on the EPrime computer
    • Push ➡ (right arrow key) to show the full image

The EyeLink display will contiue to show both views

  7. Adjust and Calibrate
  8. Exit control64.exe
    1. tap Escape
    2. hold Control and tap 'c (ie. push Ctrl+c) === Prisma 2 === - Use the EPrime PC * switch the eye tracking kvm box to 1 4) - Ensure the EyeLink host PC (farthest left tower on lowest shelf) is on - Plug the “EyeLink” blue sticky labeled Ethernet cord into the bottom “EyeLink” labeled port. * you may need to move the green tape to uncover the port
      - click the blue eye icon “calibration” (
control.exe'') on the desktop to run the eye video presenting software
  9. show video once launched and gray screen is presented
    1. push enter on the keyboard to display the eye video
    2. push right arrow to see the full (un-zoomed) video collected by the tracker
  10. confirm eye is in focus and good thresholds can be set (see SR Research EyeLink Calibration)
  11. exit the video screen
    1. push the Escape key
    2. hold control and tap c, release all keys
1)
and to a lesser extent the Siemens Tray Mount and Eye Tracker Positioning (illuminator) video
2)
a connected Ethernet cable can be problematical for eprime
3)
the top network port is for Avotech/Arrington
4)
may be on display #2, showing screen for Avotech/Arrington eye tracking
